The Tiger was a German heavy tank of the Second World War. The development of a heavy tank began in 1937 and the first design contract was awarded to Henschel. A further design contract followed in 1939 and was awarded to Porsche. Both prototype series used the same turret design from Krupp. The main differences were in the hull, the gearbox, the suspension and the vehicle equipment.

Tiger I - History of the prototype

Summer 1942: Europe is in flames. Almost all the countries in the region have fallen under Germany's sphere of influence and are invading from all sides. The anti-Hitler coalition deals tangible blows to the armies of the Axis powers. British bombs are detonated in Germany for the first time. The Americans blockade the Japanese fleet at Midway and the Solomon Islands. But the attack on the Wehrmacht's military machine cannot be stopped.

Because a new player, the heavy Tiger tank, enters the battle arena. This 24-ton vehicle with 88 mm main gun, 10 cm frontal armor, a duo machine gun, a mortar and a driving speed of 40 km/h turned out to be the irresistible offensive force of the Third Reich.   

The "Tiger", the embodiment of the new technologies of its time, still arouses great interest among military equipment enthusiasts. This tank was agile, well-armed and could be easily steered like a car using the steering wheel and pedals. These factors contributed to the fact that the "Tiger" remained in service until the end of the Second World War with virtually no major modernizations.
