Interesting facts
The Tiger armoured fighting vehicle consisted of a hull and a freely rotating turret mounted on top. Apart from the front, this consisted of a single piece of armoured steel bent into a horseshoe shape. At the front was the full-width front panel with the main and secondary armament. A baggage box for the crew's equipment was mounted at the rear, with a round emergency exit hatch in the turret wall to the right.
The hatch cover for the gunner and the commander's cupola, which initially had five viewing slits protected by armoured glass blocks, were located on the turret roof. Later, based on experience on the Eastern Front, where Soviet anti-tank defences had repeatedly penetrated the cupola, the cupola with six angled mirrors familiar from the Panther was adopted. This was to ensure the safety of the tank commander, who was now deeper in the turret shaft.
